We meet the Emperor and Empress of Japan at UBC

July 13, 2009 Shrine at Nitobe Garden, University of British Columbia . Photos taken by Erik.
The Emperor and Empress of Japan arriving at Nitobe Garden, UBC.

They were warmly welcomed by a crowd of locals and even some from as far away as Seattle. My husband and son were within 2 meters of the motorcade when these pictures were taken. My husband and Erik said "welcome to Vancouver" and the Empress bowed and said :"arigato". This will be forever enshrined in his memory and that of my son. She had a "very elegant smile and looked very pleased at the warm welcome".
The Royal couple waves to the crowd before proceeding to enter the Asian Center for a short film of the Emperor's last visit in 1956 when he was the Crown Prince.
